Serious power problem

I got the blue screen of death yesterday and today, after I tried to put it to sleep, my laptop stayed on, but with the screen turning black and then not responding. I forced shut down and tried to turn it on, but it would not. Not a light, not a sound. I then tried plugging it in. A red light went on showing that the laptop was receiving power. However, it still would not turn on. I then took out the battery. Still no luck. I then tried putting in a different battery. It finally turned on.

Can this be related to yesterday's blue screen of death? What can the problem be?
