I've been asked by a friend about this and I've never heard of them before.

Anyone have any knowledge, while I'm continuing my Googling ???

The only thing I know regarding this is that it was\is sold by Radio Shack.
( maybe others )
My brother bought this when he moved to South Carolina and he called me from there a few times. Most times the transmission was terrible and was broken up. I told him to get regular (real) phone and all was well. I don't know if he kept the "magic jack" or took it out back of the house and shot it with his 12 gauge. I offered to buy the shells for the action. :clapping:

Got one. It works. Paid annually it costs less than $2 a month.

I don't use it a lot because I also have the iPhone. I keep it because it is a phone number that I can use when I don't want to give out my cell number.

One of the neat features is that it can be set up to email you when it takes voice mail.
