Perhaps the version of Paint Ted is using predates the updated version that introduced the 'always centre the canvas' feature?

That might well explain it. Paint was redone considerably in the October 10 update (and its late September preview)
Best wishes,
Hans

@hlewton: your screenshot illustrates exactly what I meant: the canvas (the box) is still centered in the viewable part of the Paint window, but since it has the same shape and is almost as large, the upper left corner is near the upper left corner of the viewable part.
OK thanks for that explanation.

I thought it was fairly recent but wasn't sure how recent.

Out of curiosity, I opend up my version of Paint, and can confirm it starts with the work area fixed top left:

Paint version is:

This is how my 2 versions of Paint look on my Win 11 Laptop.

Yep, I can easily make my Win 11 Paint look like that too. Notice the upper most left-hand corner is not in the upper most position of Paint's canvas. There is still a gap on the top and left side. If you do a screenshot and paste it into Win 11 Paint and then save it, does your jump that saved jpeg back to the center of the Win 11 Paint canvas? Mine does.
If I save a photo of any size, including a print screen full image, the white boxes in my last images stay the same.
I only use the Classic Paint as its far superior to the Win 11 version.
If it wasn't for bad luck I'd have NO luck at all.

That still doesn't explain how your screenshot of Paint in Win 11 was created. Can you tell us what version of Win 11, including the build number, your machine is running?

Thanks,

Ken

As you'd expect for just about any application these days...
Open Paint then click on the cog wheel icon in the top right.

Are you on Win 11 Pro?
I assume this is automatically upgraded with each release of Windows 11.

My laptop is on Win 11 Pro and its version of Paint is the same number as the one Hans gives.

Thanks for the help but for one reason or another, That was not obvious to me. I hadn't even noticed the cog or gear wheel in the upper right-hand corner. I did look for Help and About though and, as is obvious not, I didn't find it. I even did more than a quick search of the WEB trying to find out how to get the version I am using and the only thing my searches did was try to get me to either install the Classic version or the new version for Windows 11. But, again, thank you.

For many years now, probably since MS replaced Menus with the Ribbon together with the rise in smartphone use, applications have been putting access to various settings (plus info previously in 'Help | About') into either a cog / gear wheel icon or a three horizontal line icon. The latter is often called a hamburger icon.

Now you know this, every time you open an application (any application) you'll probably notice such an icon and wonder, "Why didn't I notice that before?"

Paint 11.2304.33.0 is the same version as Leif has. Both have the canvas in the upper left corner.

I have Paint 11.2306.30.0 and the canvas is centered.
Best wishes,
Hans
