Paint Opens With Box In Center Of Window

Post by hlewton »

For some reason Paint recently started opening with the area or box where I paste a screen shot in the center of the Paint window. Please see attachment. How can I get it to open with that box back in the upper left-hand corner as it always used to do? I have tried stretching the corner of the box to fill up the screen but it only goes so far and then stops. If I paste a screen shot into Paint, after stretching the box as far as I can, and then outline a portion of that screenshot and clip it, it goes right pack to the center of the window. The clipped portion of the screenshot always used to end up in the upper left-hand corner of paint also. How can I fix this?

Yeah, Paint does that since a recent update. I'd just live with it.

I have 2 solutions, move the white box to top left and save it. Install Classic Paint, its the best.

If it wasn't for bad luck I'd have NO luck at all.

Thank you for the suggestions. The first solution; I have tried my best to move the white box but found no way to do that. The only option I had was to try and stretch the corners of the box to make the box align with the upper left-hand corner and it fell short of doing that. I didn't see a way to move the box because I wasn't presented with a tool to grab and move it. If there is such a way or tool, how do I access that tool?

The second suggestion is what I am looking into now. I quickly glanced at the article explaining what to do and where to get the Classic Paint. It is rather lengthy and I want to try to understand what I'm attempting to do before I do it.

Thanks again for the suggestions.

Grab the bottom right corner with Diagonal Resize 1 as my image, when its where you want it, save it. It can then be deleted as Paint will open how it was last saved.

Sorry Ted, but I'm with hlewton on this.

Using Paint on Win 11 Pro I can resize the default white box using the handles as I wish BUT as soon as I let go of the handle, although the box is resized, it always snaps to the centre of the screen. It will not stay in the top left corner.

I am still not following what you want me to do. I do know about the Diagonal Resize 1 and did what I think you wanted. In the attachment you can see what I ended up with. From there I have no idea what to do to fix it so that white box ends up in the upper left-hand corner. As per your attachment, 4th mouse down called Move, which would enable me to move that box is never available to me. I can adjust from the sides and corners but can not get it to the upper left-hand corner. Sorry if I'm misunderstanding you.

See my post, Ted's suggestion does NOT work for me.

If you can't do as Hans suggested and live with this new behaviour then your only alternative is to use an alternative image editor.

Yes thanks I did see your post, but unfortunately, I had already made the above post before seeing it.

Given a choice of living with this behaviour or shoehorning an old version of Paint onto a system that no longer directly supports it I'd live with it because MS have moved on, Classic Paint is history.

Yep, I can easily make my Win 11 Paint look like that too. Notice the upper most left-hand corner is not in the upper most position of Paint's canvas. There is still a gap on the top and left side. If you do a screenshot and paste it into Win 11 Paint and then save it, does your jump that saved jpeg back to the center of the Win 11 Paint canvas? Mine does.

Interesting but I still can't recreate you what you have been able to do.

It only works if you resize either the canvas or the Paint window so that the canvas fits snugly into the window...

I thought I could but I can't either. Not sure what Hans means, but I'm just going to live with it.

I am able to recreate what I showed in one of the attachments above where the box takes up most of the canvas. Please see attachment that is similar to the one above.

@hlewton: your screenshot illustrates exactly what I meant: the canvas (the box) is still centered in the viewable part of the Paint window, but since it has the same shape and is almost as large, the upper left corner is near the upper left corner of the viewable part.
Best wishes,
Hans

:hmmn: but if I understand you correctly, that's not what Ted's screen shot shows. There, the Paint Window is much bigger than the canvas.

I don't see how that screenshot could be produced. Maybe Emily Gray knows...
