Update: CCleaner v4.18 released

Post by HansV »

Piriform has released version 4.18 of the popular CCleaner utility.

Changes:
  • Added Active System Monitoring for Free users
  • Improved Firefox Saved Password cleaning
  • Improved Opera History cleaning
  • Improved 64-bit build architecture for Window 8 and 8.1
  • Added Ashampoo Burning Studio 14, XnView and FastStone Capture cleaning
  • Improved localization support
  • Minor GUI Improvements
  • Minor bug fixes
Download from CCleaner - Builds.

The "lean" version that doesn't include an offer for unwanted bundled software usually doesn't appear until several days after the initial release.
Best wishes,
Hans

Remark: the "Active System Monitoring" mentioned in the first post is turned on by default. In the free version, you'll be prompted to run the cleaner if more than 0.5 GB would be freed up.
If you'd rather not use this service, you can turn it off in Options > Monitoring:

Hmmm.

I get 4.17.4808 (free) when I try to update. It does not seems to have the new monitoring feature. I followed the link in Hans' post and even tried to update from within CCleaner.

UPDATE:
OK. I did it again following Hans' link and I got the update this time. I think I'm gonna like the monitoring feature. I've had a scheduled task run every morning at 3:00 AM to run it. Guess I can stop that now, eh?

There's no need to have both the runtime montoring and the scheduled task.

Another note: even if you clear the "Enable system monitoring" check box in Options > Monitoring, CCleaner will remain active in memory after you close it, and it will start automatically with Windows.
If you'd rather not have CCleaner running all the time, you should also clear the check box "Enable Active Monitoring" in Options > Advanced.

Of course, if you like the new feature, you should leave both check boxes ticked!

Thanks, Hans.

I chose monitoring and deleted the scheduled task. Had there been a monitoring feature, I would not have set the task.

I saw that 24-hour Temp file option and checked it. That, too, is a very good new feature in CCleaner.

I don't know when that was introduced, but it has been available for some time now.
Best wishes,
