Downloading videos from YouTube

Post by ChrisGreaves »

What are 64-bit (Win7) loungers using now to d/l videos from You Tube (and similar sites)?

I used KeepVid until about a year ago.
Last week I tried to install it and was glad that I'd done a System Snapshot prior to installation. Ruddy (sic!) gremlins popping up like cigarette butts in a melted snowdrift.

I'm on Win8.1, but since Win7 I have been using VDownloader.
Just watch out (as usual) for any crapware if you choose to install.

Rudi

Thanks Rudi.

"Watch Out"? It's a good thing I have an IQ of millions and an eagle-eye for cheating at Gin Rummy.
The installation screens are a minefield of terminological inexactitudes.

But we are now installed, and it looks like a great product.
I like that I can d/l in MP3 format and skip my usual conversion step.

Thanks Ken.
I tried to install this but it got itself out of sync with something it said it had to download separately.
Or maybe I missed un-checking a box and it was trying to install rogue software.

I might give it a second try next week.

LOL...yep the crapware is furious...!

You can even download only audio too if you want.
When I need a video its not even necessary to open your browser. You can search right in VDownloader and then choose to download the videos that in found...all-in-one!

:yep: :yep: and :yep: in that order.

I am sort-of-drunk right now on morceaux of sound-track from Driving Miss Daisy.
I have :crossfingers: that VDownloader wont miss a video in its search, but I aver (avow?) that it's a step up from KeepVid and then firing up an Mp$-to-Mp3 converter.

Thanks for the lead! :clapping:

P.S. I gotta run; the sun has come out. With my luck it probably heralds a cold front. Or a warm front. Or at least an affront ... :flee:

It's been two months.
I'm not sure which I love more, Rudi or VDownloader

Vdownloader is freaking me out, still, after two months.

Background: Ms B challenges me to, say, sing all the pops of The Four Preps. She's a bit of a challenge.

After I've run through my repertoire I want to find (a) which ones I've missed (b) which ones I'd not heard and (c) fill in gaps in my lyrical memory.

VDownloader freaks me out with its ease of use and format outputs.

Thanks Rudi  :clapping: :fanfare:

....if I may be permitted to break in on this thread to ask; Why do the three revolving baloons (see S/S) not revolve for every video uploaded to You Tube? Just as well I also have Freemake Video Downloader as an alternative freeby. Dave.

Sorry Hans for not being more precise, I should only have selected the three balls (Download Helper) the new SS below does show them in colour whereas the former one was greyed out as I mentioned it sometimes is which means the video can not be downloaded using it. Cheers Dave.

Thanks. I'm afraid I don't know what would cause that - perhaps the video is in a format that Video Downloadhelper doesn't support...
Best wishes,
Hans

I do have DownloadHelper but I have only used it on a handful of occasions so I can't offer any explanation at the moment BUT if you send me a private message containing a link to a YouTube page where you see the icon is greyed out then I can see if I can find anything out.

Further to my last post, Dave did send me two links to test. One he reported as linking to a page where DownloadHepler icon is greyed out and the other where it's not. However, both of the links take me to YouTube pages where my DownloadHelper icon is fully animated. This suggests the problem is peculiar to Dave's PC and not something to do with DownloadHelper.

In which case, the only thing I can think to suggest by way of a fix is to completely empty the browser cache, e.g. by running Ccleaner.

Just remember though that if you do run Ccleaner it will also delete cookies unless you have told Ccleaner to keep them (in Cclearner click 'Options' then select 'Cookies').

As a side note:

The fastest free YouTube Downloader

YouTube.com is the most popular video hosting resource and the third most popular website in the world. The success of this project owes to its convenience but the latter is limited when trying to download video from YouTube for free. Not every video can be saved using common methods.

SaveFrom.net presents the fastest ways to download videos from YouTube, providing the best quality of the videos saved from YouTube. Try it once and you will agree that this is the most convenient YouTube video downloader you ever used!

1st way:
being on YouTube.com simply add "ss" to the video URL in order to start the default YouTube downloader:

Just a quick :thankyou: to Chris and Rudi.

I had more or less given up on the Firefox Add-on. It seems I could never get it quite right. I tried VDownloader and it is the bees' knees!

 :chocciebar: :thankyou:
