Not a problem just bemused

As the two screen shots show, I downloaded four lectures - which together- totaled 0.99 GB. However, when I converted the first two using ConvertX and burnt them to a DVD they are said to total 2.1 GB which is twice as big as all four were originally. I was led to believe that ConvertX actually compressed files but this does not seem to be the case. Why do I ask? I just want to burn as many of a series as possible on one disc. Dave.
