ccleaner and jump lists

Post by StuartR »

I run ccleaner about once a month and clear almost everything, except for a specific list of cookies that I want to keep.

After running this I can see that all of the recent entries on my Word and Excel jump lists have vanished, but they have been replaced by some old documents that I haven't opened for ages. Almost as though there is a location for jumplists that ccleaner doesn't clear.

A registry search for one of the problem file names found it at

Code: Select all

Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Word\Reading Locations\Document 17
Any suggestions on how to completely clear all Microsoft Office jump lists?

Are you sure all your Office applications were closed before you ran Ccleaner? I'd be surprised if not. In which case, how about a reboot and then before you start / do anything running Ccleaner?

I think I have fixed this now. The offending information was stored in files in the folder
%APPDATA%\Microsoft\Windows\Recent\AutomaticDestinations

I suppose this is why Ccleaner is updated every month, in an attempt to keep up with all the new places MS invents to store stuff.
