Reducing a photo size (bytes)

Post by ABabeNChrist »

Is there a freeware out there, that can take reduce the amount of bytes a photo has. The reason why I'm asking is I have a report that can at times hold up to 100 photos, this can in turn make for a very large report, especially if each photo is between 2 and 7 MB . and not to mention the time it takes to print.

You can use Photo Gallery - Windows Live.

I strongly recommend you save the re-sized photos to a different folder than the originals. You want to keep the originals in as high a fidelity state as you originally have them. You always lose a little bit when you resize photos.

FastStone Image Viewer (free) lets you specify compression options when you save a picture:
x31.jpg
Of course, you can also resize the picture etc. Other popular programs such as IrfanView have similar options.
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.
Best wishes,
Hans

If you are using Microsoft Word to create your report then you can compress the pictures within Word.
  • Word 2007
    • Select any picture in the document
    • Make sure the Picture Tools > Format tab is selected
    • Click Compress Pictures in the Adjust section of the tab
    • Choose the options you want and click OK
  • Word 2003
    • Right click on any picture
    • choose Format Picture
    • Make sure the Picture tab of the dialog box is selected
    • click Compress...
    • Select "All pictures in document"
    • choose the other options you want and click OK
This may not do quite as good a job as dedicated graphics editors, but it is usually good enough and it operates on every picture in the document at once so can be very quick.
