Capturing menus with snippy

Sort of related, I use Snippy (the Windows Snipping Tool, available for XP, VIsta, and Win7--Programs => Accessories => Snipping Tool), since with it I can crop on-screen.

One interesting thing: If you have a dropdown menu on screen and want to capture it, as soon as you invoke Snippy the menu disappears. So then I do a screen capture (Alt+PrtScn), save that in a Word document, and use Snippy on it to capture the menu.

Why use Word, just open any image editing program and paste it in there.

Remember that Windows does come with Paint, and there are always the free image programs that can be installed.

I used Word as an example, since I usually have it open. To then use Snippy, the screenshot could be pasted into any of lots of different programs, not necessarily an image program.

If you want to capture a snip of a menu, such as the Start menu, follow these steps:

Open the Snipping Tool.

After you open Snipping Tool,
press ESC, and then open the
menu that you want to capture.

Press CTRL+PRINT SCREEN.

Click the arrow next to the
New button, select a snip type
from the menu, and then use
your mouse or tablet pen to
capture the menu.

Or use Faststone Capture instead.

Can't remember. I know it was some how-to-use-Vista site, but not too sure which.

These steps also work in Windows 7 64-bit.

The topic seems to have drifted a long way from JMT's original problem!

Yes, but it turned up a very useful trick, one that I have used multiple times already.

This thread was originally part of Colors in Word Clip Art pixelated when copied to Photoshop in the word forum, but it got a bit off topic, so I moved it here.
