Resizing Causes Image to Blur

Post by BobH »

So I have this .bmp image file. I open it and use FastCapture viewer to crop away most of the image and save the cropped image. I then use the Resize option to make the file and avatar and save it. The image blurs.

What, if anything, can I do to maintain a clearer image for avatars?

How bad is the blurring? Resizing does reduce sharpness. I'm not familiar with 'FastCapture viewer' but within IrfanView the resize dialog includes a 'sharpen after resize' tick box.

Thanks, Ken.

I will have to experiment a bit and report results.

What size is the original image? See if you can start out with a larger version of the image. If you can locate a bigger version of the image using Google image search, you can save that larger version, use your image editor to crop and resize, you should get a better quality.

You do need to start with an image that is suitable for resizing down to avatar size. If your image is too complex then it'll never produce a nice sharp avatar.
