Controlling Cursor Location on Web Pages

Post by BobH »

I've done a few very simple web pages. I haven't yet needed to know this, but the need will come up soon.

Is it possible for the web developer to control the position of the cursor when a page is opened? If it is, how does one do it? Can it be done in simple HTML or does one need other resources to make it happen.

I want to position the cursor in a search box every time a given page is displayed so that the user can simply begin to enter the search argument. I've noticed that several commercial sites I visit do not place the cursor in the search box which, to me, is the most obvious place for it. For example, when one opens Amazon.com one almost always enters a search argument; so why don't they position the cursor there for the user's convenience?

 :chocciebar: :thankyou:

See if this helps - Auto focus in text box.

Thanks, Joe. I'll give that a try.
