Software for web forms

Post by JoeExcelHelp »

Hello,

My team is in the process of exploring the possibility of creating a web site for the purpose of displaying and collecting information for multiple users and supported by its server based database. I'm familiar with Excel user forms and was curious if software existed that enables someone to create/modify a web form similar to excel without knowing code. any assistance is greatly appreciated thank you

There are plenty of existing online form builders (data collectors) that can be used to collect and store data into tables, cloud services or databases. Would you consider one of these online solutions, or do you intend to build your own?

For online options see these:
-- http://www.formsite.com/

If you plan to design your own, I could recommend looking into using SharePoint to do this. It would have most of the tools to put together a form and store the data in some table in the backend. I don't have experience on this but I'm sure it is possible...

Rudi

well.. we have several different data sources that we need to retrieve data from and store within our own database however, I would like to find something that enables a user to link his/her source, create tables from that source and generate dorms or displays all without the need to learn code.. I realize this may be a big ask but i figured something must exist that makes this possible to companies..

Not sure if you saw my edit regarding SharePoint, but I could recommend looking into this for flexibility and further options.

Some links:
-- Forms in SharePoint - Seven Ways to Create a Form in SharePoint
-- Create data forms using SharePoint Designer

Alternative is to look into InfoPath (which is a form creating app under the Office Suite.
-- How to create a database form in InfoPath 2010 and publish

Please note, these are simple my :2cents: suggestions. I have not used InfoPath and though I use SharePoint in my business context, I have never actually designed a SharePoint form or DB.

Rudi

Try reading these Wikipedia entries on MS Visual Studio and the cut down free version MS Visual Studio Express. Note how the VSE page talks about something called Visual Web Develper Express.

Does this help?

With the latest versions of SharePoint you may create Access web apps. They do not have the whole power of Access but a good base. You'll not find anything that gives you the full power of Excel or Access in a web form much less something without programming involved.
