Hello.
I'm trying to send an email from localhost using php, but it gets stuck in the outbox of my smtp server. I've noted advice that it's not worth bothering trying to do this locally, but I'm not quite ready to give up..
My php.ini, smtp settings are localhost and port 25. My smtp server is looking at port 25 and autodetects DNS server 127.171.135.1 (although I've tried changing this to
127.0.0.1). I have a 3 dongle for my internet connection. PHP tends to give error no 550, invalid recipient.
My questions are:
I can use a yahoo, googlemail or hotmail account for this - which is preferable?
Does MS Outlook need to be open at the time and do I need to press Send/Receive at an appropriate point?
Other than setting my outgoing server to localhost (or ANDREW-PC - my computer name) what other settings do I need in Outlook?

Any (straight-forward) advice would be appreciated. Thanks, Andy.
