There is no need for the container to be mounted during backup (and if mounted it would have its own volume, not included in the backup job, if not one is created for that volume, or it being inclunded), on the contrary, I would say (I guess there will be a discussion about keeping backups of the same files, encrypted and not encrypted). And if such a container is restored from backup (with or without all other files that also went into the backup) there is no problem to mount the container.
