I'm a bit confused! I've just dragged myself into the 21st century by investing in an Android Iphone (Sony Experia E1 - pretty basic I think). I've come to terms with most of its operations and have loaded Avast (free) mobile security. I've also managed to synch my e-mail account and can send/receive e-mails from my phone (wow!). My confusion is over whether mobile security products safeguard the e-mailing aspects? I've looked on the web at several well known names (Avast, Symantec, Kasparski etc) and none of their blurbs re mobile security make any reference to e-mail - emphasis seems to be on safeguarding web access (Facebook etc) and Apps.
Can I assume I'm secure accessing my e-mail account from my mobile - or should I be looking for a different type of security product?
Grateful any/all comment.
Thanks,
Mobile phone security

Keith,
A "Iphone" is made by Apple not Sony, so you have a cellphone.
The use of "Iphone" tells most people that you have a Apple cellphone

I think 'smartphone' is the most explicit generic term. The term 'cell-phone' simply means a 'mobile phone', smart or otherwise.DaveA wrote:Keith,

I'm glad to see that I'm not the only holdout.
I just carry a "mobile phone" that only makes phone calls. would you believe? Emergency only.

Re: Mobile phone security
Hi Keith,
To come back to your actual question regarding security of emails on a smartphone. Please note (1) this is NOT my field of expertise, and (2), I use an iPhone
IMHO, I don't think the phone is responsible for security on your email. Besides the pin to lock your phone and any security settings you adjust to prevent access to the content on your phone, the security around your email is similar to that on a PC. If you are using a web email service like Gmail, for example, you need to log into your Gmail account to gain access to your Gmail. If you are checking an exchange account, you also need to log into your account to gain access to read and reply of emails. So, its your account that secures your email, not your phone. This is my 2 cents worth of info...and take it with a pinch of salt.

thanks Rudi, that makes sense - much to my relief! My thanks.
Leif/Dave: Smart phone it is! - Just seen what appears at the bottom of any e-mail I send; "Sent from my Sony Xperia smartphone"

Dave/Bob,
You may be interested in this as it works with all telephone carriers.
Best of all it is reasonably priced and there are no monthly data fees. I'm not sure how e-mail would work.

John

I'm proud to say I'm not a slave to the must have group that gets a new iphone every six months. Apple loves them though. Excellent marketing plan!
