privazer

Post by Claude »

Has anyone here used this program, if so, does it stand up to its claims ?
Cheers, Claude.

You can benchmark it with CCleaner which most of us know.

After running CCleaner, then after nearly 6 hours of an in-depth scan, it cleaned up another 20 GB, I'm most impressed. :scratch: . Verdict: I can recommend it, especially seeing that I just used the mobile version which doesn't require installation and can be carried around on a USB stick. :thumbup:
Cheers, Claude.

Howdy, Claude!

How are the critters?

Taking your lead, I got Privazer and scanned my system. I only spent about 2 hours doing mine, but I'm just an old fogey who does no real work on his computer.

I too ran it after running CCleaner and found that it returned about 10 GB of disk space.

Thanks for the tip!!!

It seemed to work fine, except in Firefox it cleared the information which suggests a number of previously-used URLs when you enter the first two or three letters in the URL field. (What's this feature called, by the way, so I can disable it in PrivaZer next time? Some variant of 'history'?)

This is part of its INI file:

Code: Select all

FF1=1	 #Visited sites
FF2=0	 #Typed sites
FF3=1	 #Cache
FF4=0	 #HTML5 caches (appcache)
FF5=0	 #Typed info
FF6=0	 #Firefox search bar history
FF7=0 #Google, Yahoo, MSN Bing bar history
FF8=0 #Searched keywords on Google, Yahoo, Bing
FF9=1	 #Downloads history
FF19=1	 #Save history
FF10=1	 #Daily backup of favorites
FF20=0	 #Sites thumbnails
FF11=0	 #Saved passwords
FF12=1	 #Sites with permission
FF13=1	 #Visualization prefs
FF14=1	 #Old version files
FF15=1	 #Last session
FF16=1	 #Crash Report
FF17=1	 #Compact Sqlite databases
FF18=1	 #Delete empty Sqlite databases

Wouldn't that be "FF1=1 #Visited sites"?

Yes, that's the one! Thanks.

I have also noticed that, when running, PrivaZer can put some really large files in a directory \~00~\ on the partition currently being processed. For the C: drive mine nearly filled the whole partition (usually about 22% full). My E: drive was 25% free = 149 GB free; while PrivaZer was running it went down to 5% free = 30 GB free. After it had finished cleaning, the figures went back to normal.

Yes, and it adds a start-up entry to the registry, which I know you'll just love John, a DOS command to remove that directory.

(I know because I keep a very tight lookout for any changes to my start-ups via WinPatrol Plus)
Cheers, Claude.

Can you choose which changes you want to accept or not accept, i.e., perhaps in the same way CCleaner allows you to check or uncheck items to scan?

Ignore my question, please. I just found the answer in the video on using the program.
