Avast settings

Post by curious »

Hello -

Would like suggestions on speeding up Avast: (Win XP Pro, SR3)

I Deselected Scroll all files..

Is Web mail really necessary? What about Reputation Services and Deepscreen?

File System & Web Shild are on.
I had deselected Follow Link, but then thought that perhaps it should be on…

I have excluded Folders that I rarely access.

All suggestions thankfully received.

Hi curious, the first thing you need to do is ascertain what your other security programs protect.

As of now, Avast is the only security program.
do have NoScript and Ad Blocker, on default settings. Bluhell Firewall (which I am thinking of getting rid of)....

I tend to visit the same web sites.

Thanks, Curious

Perhaps check the Avast FAQ's in the online help. I see there's also a free number to call. Also, why not just minimalize Avast when you run it? Then you can go on with your other computer stuff.

Thanks, George. It's not the speed on starting the PC, it's the time it takes to scan when I click on a web site, a link. True, I have an old PC...
----
Another question:
I listen to a streaming radio station and have entered its URL in the web shield Exclusion list. (Yes, clicked 'Add') Has not down any good. The icon spins as long as the site is open. Have I misunderstood how this works? I thought the address entered would tell Avast not to bother with that site....

Appreciate your thoughts on this.

My image shows my settings:-
I have not added any URLS to it's exclusion list. I use OpenDNS for web filtering

Re your other question. It could be your browser addons that causes it to fail.
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.
