Thunderbird 64-bit Install

Post by PaulB »

I attempted to migrate today from TB (32-bit) to TB (64-bit) but held off when I noticed that the installer package tries to install TB (64-bit) in the C:\Program Files (x86) library. Isn't this library typically reserved for 32-bit applications? Can anyone venture an explanation why it would not be installed in C:\Program Files library?

Paul

False alarm! Looks like the 64-bit installation package checks to see if a 32-bit version exists in which case it installs to the 32-bit library. If there is no 32-bit version, it installs to the 64-bit library. Seems it has to do with picking up any existing TB profiles.

Paul, what advantage, if any, is there to having the 64-bit version?

Truthfully, Bob, I don't know. I cannot detect any differences so far with the 64-bit version compared to the 32-bit version.
