Hello -
I cannot get pass this screen after I hit Sign in: I don't know what setting I am 'lacking' or how to indicate all this ok. I don't want to give a telephone number: must I? When I click Done, I am not taken to my account.
I realize this is supposed to be for my protection, but is there a way to bypass these periodic questions?
Thank you.

First of all, you don't have to give ( nor should you give ) your telephone number on any public posting.
I assume you are talking about the initial sign in Gmail screen?
Have you ever been able to sign in successfully?
Is your password correct?
If you CAN finally sign in, I would try changing your password.
Also, have you used the "Need Help" link at the sign in screen?
Give as much detail as you can to look further into your problem.
Can you take any screenshots?
BOB

Re: Gmail: sign in Account settings
Hi, Bob.
Yes, I have been able to directly sign in-in prior days. Now, when I Choose an Account, am taken to a window titled Account Settings with Security, Personal Signing In and other sections. I can’t figure out how to verify all that info, how to exit the Account Setting screen and get to my Gmail.
(As far as I can determine, the Account Settings page doesn’t indicate what/where the problem is.)
On another browser with just one account,I am able to get to my mail, which would seem to indicate there’s a problem with one of the other accounts, but how to tell what the problem is….
Thanks for any suggestions!

Do you get a screen like this (with your own name of course)?

There is an Apps button in the upper right corner; what happens if you click it and select Gmail?

Re: Gmail: sign in Account settings
Yes indeed! Hans, I never even truly noticed that Apps button. Thank you so much for once again saving the day.
Is there any way to make that the default, to go directly to Gmail for account chosen without having to click the Apps button, then clicking Gmail? Or having the Apps screen open without having to click the button?
I played around a little and it seems that every time I choose an account, even in same browser session, I then have those additional steps.

Re: Gmail: sign in Account settings
That's strange - for me, it happens very occasionally, perhaps twice a year. All the other times, I'm taken straight to the mail window after logging in.
Have you ever worked your way through the security checkup?

Yes, I've checked out Security and all is well, except I do not enter a telephone number....

I've tried searching for your problem, but I can't find a way to force Gmail to go to the e-mail window immediately. Sorry!
Best wishes,
Hans

Re: Gmail: sign in Account settings
Have you tried to use the Gmail Help link on the sign in page?
It takes you to ways to turn off two step verification and other sign in issues.

Re: Gmail: sign in Account settings
Thanks, Bob. Yes, I had tried that but it didn't seem to address my question and searching the Net didn't help either. I'm probably not be entering the magic words in search box....
