If you have a Hotmail account, when you log into Hotmail you will be taken to Outlook.com instead. You can set up an @outlook.com email address if you wish, and as it is new service you currently have a good chance of getting the email address that you want without having to add some numbers or other extra characters to it.

Interesting - my favorite/bookmark still took me to the Live Hotmail page, but when I followed the link in your post, I was instantly upgraded - the favorite/bookmark now takes me to Outlook.com...
