Is possible to set up Outlook Express such that a click on the the window X button is the equivalent to clicking File |Exit and Log Off Identity?

No, I don't think so. You have to remember to select File | Exit and Log Off Identity.

It won't solve your problem, but have you considered switching to Windows Live Mail? Outlook Express is getting a bit long in the tooth, and it has bugs that will not be corrected by Microsoft anymore now that there is a successor.

Thanks, I didn't think I was missing anything but it was worth asking.

Looking into Live mail is on the 'to do' list as part of my migration from my Win 98 box to my 'new' toy running XP MCE.
