Rule for Read Messages

I understand that rules cannot be applied to read messages. I'm looking for a work around.

I have various folder structures on the Exchange Server and have the exact structure on my laptop. I have been manually moving the read messages from the server to my laptop.

Is it possible to do this with a rule or two?

You can run rules on existing messages (in the Rules and Alerts dialog, click Run Rules Now...), but I don't see a way to limit them to process read messages only.

Another option would be to use the Archive option (Outlook 2007 or before: File | Archive..., Outlook 2010: File > Cleanup Tools > Archive...)
