Keyboard shortcuts to navigate between folders in tree view

Post by jmt356 »

In Office 2010, if you were in your Inbox viewing an email, you could use the keyboard to navigate to different folders, such as Sent Items or Drafts, by pressing shift + tab to highlight the tree view on the left, typing the first letter(s) of the folder and pressing enter. This does not work for me in Outlook 2016. Shift + tab is not taking me to the tree view. I have to manually click into the tree. Is there another keyboard shortcut that can be used?

Ctrl+Shift+Tab should work too.

Thank you.

Shift + F6 is a bit of a stretch, but ctrl + shift + tab works.

I have a work laptop and a personal laptop both running Outlook 2016. On the work laptop, shift + tab gets me to the tree view. On my personal laptop, I must type ctrl + shift + tab. How can I get the setting on the work laptop to work on the personal laptop (i.e., so that I do not have to hold down ctrl)?

It probably depends on where the focus is when you press Ctrl+Tab. You could try pressing Ctrl+Tab several times on your personal laptop. Does the focus shift to the folder tree eventually?

Hans

It does, but what I am looking for is a way to shift to the folder tree without pressing ctrl. On my work laptop, shift+tab or just tab gets it there. On my home laptop, shift+tab or tab circles around a different set of targets and never gets to the folder tree. To get to the folder tree on my personal laptop, I need to press ctrl.

Perhaps there is a function somewhere that toggles the ctrl key on or off in Outlook Professional Plus 2016.
