Pasting text into message
I often draft in MS Word the paste into Outlook. I find that when I do this, everything I paste is underlined and I must select all then click on the underline button in order to remove the underlining. Does anyone know why this happens and, more importantly, how I can prevent it?

Re: Pasting text into message
Are you possibly pasting into a line in the email body that has a pre-formatted font?
If you open a new message in Outlook and you click in the body of the message, (don't paste anything), just look at the Underline button. Is it active?

No, it is not set for underline. Moreover, this only seems to happen when I copy/paste from Word (Word 2007). If I past from any other app, it does not happen.

Re: Pasting text into message
As a troubleshooting point, does it help if you paste as text only?
(Position your cursor in the new email body and click the drop down arrow below Paste, and choose the "A" icon (to paste ONLY text))
Does it still underline?
If yes, are you aware of anything 'special' in the Word document? Track changes on, styles being used, that can contribute to this issue?

Re: Pasting text into message
It works fine if I paste as unformatted text. It also works fine if I paste from another application like Notepad. I cannot find anything in Word that would contrite to this.

Re: Pasting text into message
Is it possible to upload a small desensitized Word document with some sample text (that pastes into Outlook with the underline?)
Maybe the origin of the problem is in Word and with a sample I can test if I get the same results with the text as you do?

Sure - see attached. I hope you can find something - I cannot find how to see what file properties exist but it seems normal.

Re: Pasting text into message
As you can see in the screenshot below, the text in the Word document uses the Hyperlink character style. In the document, this style doesn't have underlining, but by default, hyperlinks are underlined in Outlook.
If you remove the character style from the text in Word (Ctrl+space bar), or create new text using the Normal style, it will not be underlined when you copy/paste into Outlook.

Re: Pasting text into message
Thank you for solving this mystery.
1) How do you know what style is applied? I am using Word 2007 and cannot replicate what I see in your image above?
2) I always thought I was using a normal style... wonder when/how that changed?
3) How, exactly, do I get back to the style based on normal.dot?

Re: Pasting text into message
I figured out how to replicate your image... didn't know you could do that - see all styles applied in a document (if that's what I am seeing).
I also opened normal.dotx and see it was changed in October and that hyperlink is the default character style. How do I set a new style? I see normal in that little box but seem unable to select it.
