Outlook losing password

Post by silverback »

My friend has just bit the bullet and upgraded his PC from Windows XP to Windows 7. He uses Outlook 2003. This worked fine when on XP, but since the upgrade, every time he opens Outlook it prompts for the email password. Once entered, Outlook performs fine, but on reopening, after closing an Outlook session or rebooting the machine, the password is again missing and the prompt for password reappears.
Any ideas about what's happening and how it can be fixed, please?

Thanks

Try these steps to have Outlook remember your email account's password:

Select Tools | Account Settings... from the menu.
Go to the E-mail tab.
Highlight the desired email account.
You have to set Outlook to remember the password for each account individually.
Click Change....
Make sure Remember password is checked under Logon Information.
Type the email account's password under Password:.

If your outgoing mail server requires a different password (which is unlikely):
Click More Settings ....
Go to the Outgoing Server tab.
Make sure Remember password is checked under My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication.
Type the SMTP server's user name and password under User Name: and Password: respectively.
Click OK.
Click Next >.
Now click Finish.
Click Close.

If the above does not resolve, review this list of actions:

Thanks, Rudi. Problem solved. User error.
After promising me faithfully that he was using Office 2003, it turns out he's on Office 2002. However, without your really useful link to the "howto" website, I wouldn't have known that this was an unsupported combination.

Many thanks for your help
