I don't want Outlook 2013 to display the Categories column as I don't use these and it takes up valuable space on the screen.
I can remove the column from the view for an individual folder, but when I remove it from the Compact view (which is applied to most folders) it seems to have no effect.
Is there a simple way to stop displaying this column in every folder? Or in every folder that has the Compact view?

Ah, it's the apply to all folders that I missed. I was nervous that it would then be applied to folders like Sent Items that have completely different views, but it's all good now.
Thank you
