Increased reading pane = email list in 2 lines

When I increase the size of my reading pane on the right, my list of emails in the middle of Outlook 2003 display in two lines per email. How can I restore the setting to one line per email in the list, even when the reading pane size is increased?

Select View | Arrange By | Current View | Customize Current View...
Click Other Settings...
Clear the check box "Use multi-line layout in widths smaller than".
Select the option button "Always use single-line layout".
Click OK.
