A colleague wants to print a fairly long email thread. On screen she can see all the text but when you either print (or just print preview) some of the lines of text way don the thread are lost off the edge of the page. It's as if some of the contributors have a used page size that's wider than A4 and that Outlook is wrapping the text at these wider margins, even though we are asking it to print on A4 paper.
I suppose we could just print the whole thing in landscape but is there a 'proper' way to fix this? In the days long ago when we used Thunderbird there was a feature to 'rewrap text' but I can't find the equivalent of that in Outlook 2007.

Re: printed email doesn't word wrap correctly
If the e-mails are in HTML format, Outlook uses Internet Explorer as "print engine", as far as I know, so it might be a good idea to check the page settings in Internet Explorer (File | Page Setup...; look at paper size and margins)
Best wishes,
Hans

Doesn't look like IE is to blame in this case. We never use IE but having fired it up and got over it bellyaching that it's not allowed to access the default home page then everything I looked at to do with page settings and the (network) printers available to it all said 'A4' and std margins of 2.54cm.

I have come across this where there is a graphic or formatted signature with a fixed width and Outlook/IE uses this to base the print width on.
Does it happen all emails or just this one?

I'll ask but I don't think it's all emails, just ones that have a long and tortured history of several replies plus a few forwards from countries around the world. This particular one features a chunk of text in Chinese characters so in a sense I'm not surprised it doesn't print properly.Leif wrote:I have come across this where there is a graphic or formatted signature with a fixed width and Outlook/IE uses this to base the print width on.

I'll also look to see if there is anything that could be a fixed with graphic.
for the hint.

Hmmm. Anything set to read right to left, or right justified?

I'll look into that too but the text that is lost is in English and it's the right hand end that's missing.

Re: printed email doesn't word wrap correctly
It appears to me that this subject email has been forwarded using several different email programs. Each one will add problems to the history.
I have found that AOL still is the number one problem maker.
I would suggest the the user copy and paste the complete email into Word, and have look there to see if one will get what they want.

FWIW, from Outlook 2007 on IE is no longer used as the print engine. I think it is the Word print engine.
Outlook 2007 was the version where big HTML rendering changes were made too.
