Anything to Be Aware of When Downloading/Installing Chrome?

Post by BobH »

I have been asked to help a friend debug his website. I normally use Firefox (31.0) but do not get the page loaded correctly with it. I thought I might download and try Chrome; however, I am suspicious of all things google (just because I'm paranoid doesn't mean they are not out to get me). Any advice or cautions from anyone who has experienced Chrome?

Also, what browsers should I investigate to run on Win7 HPE for debugging? Any advice or cautions about them?

 :chocciebar: :thankyou:

When you install Chrome, it will probably ask you whether you want to make it your default browser. Assuming that you want to keep on using Firefox as default, answer No.
It will probably also offer to import bookmarks from Firefox; whether you want to allow that is up to you.

Chrome, Internet Explorer and Firefox are the "big three" for Windows; there are other browsers but they play a relatively minor role.
Best wishes,
Hans

I use Chrome on a couple of computers. The only caution I have is to be very careful during installation. They sometimes want to put Adons and you need to skip or del-select them.

It has been a long time since I have installed Google Chrome so I can not tell you what the installation screen looks like anymore.

Other than that - I have not had a problem with the browser itself.

NOTE: Me being me - I never allow automatic updates. I WILL allow automatic checks if possible - but I want to m manually install the updates so I can be sure what is happening to my system.

Hi Bob,
I'm not posting to influence your opinions of Chrome or Google...but I have been using Chrome ever since it became available and I'm still around and my PC still works fine  I don't think there is anything to really be overly concerned about.

Thanks to all!

I downloaded and installed both Chrome and Opera; so I'm now running web pages in 4 different browsers. Curiously - for me anyway - Firefox is the only one not serving the page correctly.

Well, I sometimes open Eileen's Lounge in a second browser, not in order to post, but to see what the Lounge looks like without administrator privileges...
Best wishes,

To see what the lounge looks like without Admin privileges, all you need to do is sit upright in a chair...

Bob,

For what it is worth, I sometimes use opera or chrome on certain websites because they load faster.

Firefox is my main browser but can get bloated at times with all the adons and extensions. I also sometime need two different browsers to open two different e-mail accounts on the same mail server (ex mail.yahoo.com) at the same time.

Ditto for me. Chrome is my first choice and has been for years.

I think Chrome still steals a lot of the default files type settings and when uninstalled gives one error messages to fact that app not found.
