FF Rendering problem?

Post by silverback »

Is anyone having problems with Firefox 8.0.1 re rendering of web pages?
I've just installed the latest FF and it has an occasional, small but iriritating probem opening the Google advanced search page.
IE and FF render this page as shown in the pictures.
(The FF one is actually larger so I've had to chop the top of the page off in order to show the Advanced Search button.)

But, today, FF is rendering the page like IE!
As I said - a small but irritating problem.
Has anyone ideas on what may be causing this to happen?

Thanks

This doesn't look like a rendering problem, the two pages have different text.
I assume that Google is feeding you a different page based on the browser it thinks you are using.

Google is gradually rolling out a new interface. Whether you get the new interface or the older one depends on your geographic location, your browser, and other factors unknown to me.

I get the new interface in IE9:

But the older one in Firefox 8:

Thank you Stuart and Hans
So I'm not losing my mind, then. Well, perhaps not entirely!

The most recent version is 8.0.1. However, the changes from 8.0 are so slight that if you have 8.0, it will not automatically be updated to 8.0.1. According to the Release Notes, the changes are:

- Fixed Mac OS X crash that occurred in certain instances when a Java Applet is loaded with Java SE 6 version 1.6.0_29 installed.
- Fixed Windows startup crash caused by RoboForm versions older than 7.6.2.

If you wish, you can download 8.0.1 from the Firefox home page, but you might as well wait until version 9 is released next week (planned date December 20, 2011).
Best wishes,
Hans
