Add-on to implement pre-emptive spell-checking

Post by ChrisGreaves »

(we also need an Andy-Gibson delay-mechanism to give ordinary people a fighting chance at responding hah hah!)
I've had three attempts at pre-emptive spell-checking in MSWord; rather than invoke Spell-Checker, I invoke a machine that has learned what my common mistakes are at this folder level and below and does the fixing-up before the regular spell-check is invoked. One of these days I'll get it right.

In the meantime I am hammering away in this text box in FF 3.6.15 (When did that slip in? I was at 3.6.14 two days ago?!!) and typing " i " instead of " I ", and "serach" instead of "search" etc, and in a moment I'll grope for the mouse and right-click all the corrections.

Why can't we have an add-on that we train to fix, automatically, prior to our right-click spell-check, a search-and-replace for all the known foibles for those of us who are too old to change a lifetime's two-fingered pecking?

(OK Andy, you can come out of hiding now ...)

In MS Office, you can use AutoCorrect to correct common typos - in fact, it catches things like "woudl" and "teh" out of the box. When you're correcting spelling, you can click AutoCorrect to add a typo plus the corrected version to your AutoCorrect list.

There is no AutoCorrect add-on for Firefox, as far as I know.
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.
Best wishes,
Hans

Quite so, but the Word AutoCorrect operates on every document, and cannot (without great VBAagility) be customized for a client or project tree of folders. As well I was looking for something that could augment the AutoCorrect on-the-fly.

Thanks for the confirmation Hans. Shall we let Andy out of his cage?

And this evening I stumbled across this:-
"You can save a section break and the formatting it contains as an AutoText entry for future use."

I don't quite see how that would help with spell-checking, but it can be useful...
Best wishes,
Hans
