Bookmarks recovery

Post by viking33 »

As I slowly recover from the catastrophic crash of Win 7 AND 10, ( I'm concentrating on 7 ) I got to Firefox 60.0.2 and saw that my LONG list of bookmarks were trashed. :groan: I have not been able to get them back even though they are still there in a Favorites folder in my user name.
I have tried to export them to a HTML file from IE ( and then Import it)
but all I get is a repetitive list of shortcuts but no regular list in the Bookmarks menu. I used a backup image of the Profiles from Firefox but no joy.
I have to be doing something wrong but what?

I did try that method quite a few times, Hans. It does get me somewhat back to normal lists but clicking on the bookmarks folder at the top of the menu, I have to then go down to the last from IE line to get to the old list. Close but not quite a cigar?

The link you suggested also had a number of other links to additional things to try, so I'll get the page printed and start a new day tomorrow. Thanks, Hans.

You should be able to drag the bookmarks to the desired location, I think.

Hans

In the left hand pane of the "Show All Bookmarks" dialog (Ctrl+Shift+B), click on the "From Internet Explorer" folder that contains the "old" bookmarks.
You can use the usual methods to select bookmarks in the right hand pane (Click + Shift Click to select a range, Ctrl+Click to select/deselect individual items, Ctrl+A to select all items).
Drag the selected bookmarks to the folder in the left hand pane where you want them, for example the Bookmarks Toolbar or Bookmarks Menu folder.
Best wishes,
Hans

You did it again, Hans!!! :thankyou:
I guess I was trying to drag them in the wrong direction. :dimwit:
So that's another one back to normal. Now if I could get the folder arrangement to remember the settings (Windows 7 Forum ) I'll be back in good shape until the next glitch appears.
