Update: Firefox 57.0 (Quantum) released

Post by HansV »

See Version 57.0, first offered to Release channel users on November 14, 2017

Get it from the internal update mechanism, or download it from Download Firefox in your language

Note: while most of my preferences were kept from version 56.0.2, some were reset. Not a big problem though.
Best wishes,
Hans

Just updated... Looks GREAT!!
Sync worked well (from Google Account)
One or two add-ons were deprecated as Legacy add-ons, but were easily replaced with similar functioning add-ons from the compatible suggestions provided.

Rudi

Sadly, the NoScript extension is incompatible with Firefox 57. I had hoped that the developer would update it in time, but alas...

It looks like I can't have tabs below the address bar any more...

Thanks Hans! I had come across that solution, but for some reason, my brain interpreted it as meaning the bottom of the window...

Now, all I need is to get the separators to show in my Bookmarks Toolbar. And the old icons back.

But it does seem a lot faster!

WOW!

It truly is much faster than the previous version on my system. I haven't checked on any extensions I may have lost but will do so in the fullness of time.

Congratulations to Mozilla.org!

I've still got the separators on my Bookmarks Toolbar but I agree, the plain and grey folders lack the appeal of the traditional manllia coloured ones of pre v57.

It is faster though, this little netbook is appreciating that improvement.

It seems the way to do that is via userChrome.css:

If you liked the option of adding formatting tags to your replies without having to go into the advanced edit window, one extension that was handy (and is not compatible with Quantum anymore) was BBCodeXtra. A substitute for this if you're interested is: Edit.

If this has been covered elsewhere, please accept my apologies for asking an already-answered question.

How does one determine what pre-Quantum addons no longer work with the new release? :hairout:

Press Ctrl+Shift+A to activate the Add-Ons Manager.
Select 'Legacy Extensions' on the left.

Thank you, Hans!

I followed your instructions and found no Legacy Extensions hot link, nor did I get the screen you showed the shot of. I thought I had been running NoScript, but it does not appear anywhere in my Tools>Add-ons options.

If you have Firefox 57 and don't see Legacy Extensions, you don't have disabled extensions/plugins...

When I log on to my Indoor Bowls site I used to get this:-

On the same page I now get this:-
2.PNG
I think uMatrix is to blame, its the replacement addon for NoScript. As yet I haven't worked out how to use it.

It shows as my first image when disabled. I don't want to do this for every site if it's needed.

NoScript 10 should be released soon - Giorgio Maone promised it for the end of this week.
