I had automatically received the download but had to restart to implement it.

Slightly OT question: Mozilla seem not to have a 64-bit version of Thunderbird. Do you why?

Although there appear to be unofficial 64-bit builds of Thunderbird, they aren't supported. A link that I found was not accessible.

Anyway, the advantages of a 64-bit version over the standard 32-bit version would be marginal or non-existent.
