Couldn't load xp comm

Post by curious »

Hello -

Received above message and an I'net search indicates I will have to reinstall (this, perhaps coincidentally happened after I updated--yesterday). Is there any other solution? I gather I cannot just uninstall from Control Panel Programs...

I've tried System Restore at 4 different restore points. No luck.

What would happen if I tried to install Firefox using Pale Moon?

Thank you for your suggestions.

See the advice in this page, even though it is for windows 8...
Please wait for other suggestions, but if you do uninstall I can recommend to use Revo Uninstaller since it also cleans out the registry and any lingering settings for the app being uninstalled. Do not use the default windows uninstaller.

Rudi

Thanks, Rudi. I had seen that page but I cannot get beyond the 'couldn't load' message.

Did you see the comments at the bottom of the page?
Anand Khanse advises to try: Enter Clean Boot State and try to uninstall it. See: http://www.thewindowsclub.com/what-is-c ... in-windows

Not sure what you mean by installing Firefox using Pale Moon?
Pale Moon is a direct offshoot of Firefox and looks and feels the same but it is a separate stand alone program. It is NOT Firefox.

Yes, I know Pale Moon is not Firefox, Viking. That's why I thought I might be able to install it via Pale Moon-- could I do so without a conflict, without doing harm? I could try it, of course, but don't want to make matters any more complicated.Wonder if anyone has a copy of FF running on Pale Moon while having received this message from Firefox. Perhaps I'd get the same message???

Should I give it a try. I do want two browsers....

Thanks much

Rudi - I don't think this is a Windows problem

According to Pale Moon: Frequently Asked Questions > Can I run Pale Moon and Firefox at the same time?:
Yes, you will be able to start Firefox and Pale Moon at the same time.
Best wishes,
Hans

Yes, I know and have done so before running into the Couldn't load message. What I am wondering if I [try to] install FF again whilst it is still somewhere in the ether where it can give me messages, will I 'explode' anything? Not intrepid enough to try without input from you guys!

I'd uninstall Firefox from the Programs and Features control panel.
Then use any other browser (Pale Moon, Internet Explorer, Chrome) to download Firefox from https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;, and install it again.
Best wishes,
Hans

Since they are two separate browsers, you should be good to go and get Fx.
