clip to onenote legacy version not working in FF 33.1.1

Post by Teunis »

I use the Clip to Onenote (Office 2010) addin in FireFox to send an internet page to Onenote a lot. This allows me to edit it in Onenote and if and when required to copy it into Word. It is very fast and complete (picture, links, etc are included), and allows very easy editing.

Since FF 33.1.1 it does not work any more! I always use the "legacy" version as you have to load a "Onenote listener" for the other version. I cannot contact the author as the link to his site does not work. Has any body any ideas?

Regards, Teunis

Is this the link you tried to report the issue? If not, you can send a problem report at the bottom of the page.

Thanks for your answer, but this link reports "Problem loading page" (as before). I don't know how to "send a problem report at the bottom of the page" you mean, which page?

It's near the bottom of the page of the link Rudi provided.

The problem is that I cannot get the link to open, so I cannot go to the bottom of that page.

I wonder what's going on here - Rudi's link doesn't work for me either in Firefox 33.1.1 or in IE11, but apparently it does for Viking33...
Best wishes,
Hans

Rudi's link works for me (FF 33.1.1).

Just tested it in IE 11.0.9600 and it works fine too.
Rather strange?

Here is a link to the help guide that was referenced in the screen shot from Vikings post:

The link below directs one to a shared OneDrive folder...
Clip to OneNote - Help Guide

Below is a section from the Help Guide FAQ's...
Help!! Its is not working for me!!!

If Clip to OneNote Listener is not starting up,
Please make sure that your firewall or anti-virus is not blocking the program. Right clicking and running as administrator might help. This is the most common problem faced. See also Windows Security Alert

If you have a problem with a browser extension:
Please Check whether you have installed listener/add-on it correctly. Try reinstalling.
Check whether you have set the port number correctly in the options box. Default port number is 2866. Make sure that no other program is blocking that port.
Try running the listener as Administrator.
Make sure that your firewall or anti-virus is not blocking the program.
Try disabling other extensions and add-ons in your browser. If it is working now then the problem can be due to a clash with other extensions (which is very unlikely).
Check whether the default IE plugin-in is working. If not then the problem is with OneNote’s installation. You have to either repair OneNote installation or contact Microsoft’s tech support.

As always if you can't make it work with the above settings, please do contact me.
Regards,
Rudi

OK, I decided to start installing the new (with listener) version of Clip to Onenote. Unfortunately I cannot download the "listener" as it is located at the link referred to location and not with the Mozilla add-ons. How to obtain the "listener" (I have Java for FF and IE disabled)?

Does this location work as a separate download?
Just watch out for bundled software!!!

Checked already works fine now, thanks a lot. One question: how safe is this listener?

I have not used this app so I cannot say from personal experience. I'm not sure if many loungers here use it too, but you could wait for further input on this thread. Alternatively, Google for Clip to OneNote Listener Reviews or read the user comments on the sites where you can download it for additional feedback.

Final remark!

Sorry Rudi, the version (4.2) of the listener in your link was not the correct one and did not work all the time. The problem is that a lot of interested people cannot get to the author's (j.madharasan; sometimes under eTrent Soft but no site) official site for some unknown reason (not only Hans V. and myself). That may cause the not so popularity of this IMO otherwise very useful addin, if you use OneNote.

I finally found the correct version of the listener by accident on Sourceforge.net searching for "clip to onenote". It should be version 5.0. Apparently the author made the Clip to Onenote addin for a number of browsers FF, Chrome, Opera etc. But they all rely on the same listener, to be found (in my case) on sourceforge.net.

Teunis

TX for the feedback and glad you came right with this.
I am sure this will be useful for any other loungers that use this add-in.
