Audio Problems

Post by Don Wells »

When I open Firefox using any desktop icon, the taskbar icon or either the "Open new tab" or "Open new window" selections from the Start menu, I am unable to get any sound through Firefox. However if I select "New private window" from the Start menu, the audio works properly.

I am currently running Firefox 33.0.3 but the loss of audio occurred prior to updating to this latest version. I don't know what version I upgraded from.
Any insight into curing this anomaly will be greatly appreciated.

I'm guessing here but it sounds :groan: like you might have an incompatible add-on, which is not invoked in a private browsing session. If so the usual advice applies:

Disable all your add-ons then add them back one at a time until you find the culprit.

I have set all plugins to "Never Activate" and all Add-ons to "Disabled". The problem remains.

If your absence does not affect them, your presence didn't matter.

Thanks Rudi; but that doesn't help me. The problem exists only in Firefox and only in the non private modes,
The problem persists when all plug-ins and extensions are de-activated.
There is no difference between the private and non private modes with respect to the plugins and extensions and their version or configuration.

Interesting,

In my searching I came across a piece of advice that mentioned to clear the internet cache of the app. I scanned over that one thinking that it had nothing to do with volume....

Glad you got your solution.
