Re: Update: Firefox 28 released
Causing me a lot of problems - seems to be crashing when clicking on links. No pattern I can see yet, and still happens in safe mode.

Why not just use Chrome...it's shiny, smooth and really nice to touch

I use Chrome as my default browser, I also have Firefox and IE on this laptop. The webinar I'm currently listening to wouldn't work on Chrome!

Hmmm...I can't tell why that is an issue....I guess you can't have your toast buttered on both sides all the time!

I rarely use my browser for accessing toast. I get toast by walking into the kitchen, hopefully not tripping over any cats on the way.

No Chrome for me - when I tried it, I found Google's automatic update procedures far too intrusive and busy.
Best wishes,
Hans

Re: Update: Firefox 28 released
You must have changed your mind recently as I recall some thread (you may have initiated) that was hailing the fact that Chrome was the best browser and had surpassed FF as the most popular.HansV wrote:No Chrome for me - when I tried it, I found Google's automatic update procedures far too intrusive and busy.

Re: Update: Firefox 28 released
I probably mentioned that it was the most popular browser now. worldwide. I don't doubt that it is a good browser, I just didn't like the way the Google Updater services behaved.
Best wishes,
Hans

Re: Update: Firefox 28 released
Hans,
I share your frustration with Google Chrome updates. I have found at least a partial solution - see How to disable silent and automatic updates in Chrome for Windows. However, I'm not completely sure that it is still working with version 33.

Re: Update: Firefox 28 released
Thanks. When I used Chrome (which is admittedly not recently), I tried several methods to disable or remove the Google Updater services, but somehow they were always installed / enabled again after a short while, so I decided to uninstall Chrome altogether. I haven't tried again, so I don't know if it's better behaved now.
Best wishes,
Hans

As a dedicated Luddite, I hate the current Chromification of modern browsers. I found like-minded people at http://www.palemoon.org" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. Pale Moon is an optimised firefox-derived browser that retains the classic Firefox look and feel and also has a 64bit version. They also have a friendly forum where the developer hangs out and listens (unlike Mozilla).
Disclaimer: I went there looking for a browser to replace my beloved Opera (which has been chromified to death). Pale Moon isn't a complete replacement, but it's darned close.

Thanks for the link. I just DL PaleMoon but didn't install it as my default browser. Used the separate utility to import my Fx settings and all were compatible except for the D3 downloader but that's no big deal.
In fact, I'm using PM right now just to give it a whirl. So far, not bad! Definitely a Firefox relative.
