Formatting doesn't stick.

Post by Peter Kinross »

In a new access 2010 form with a lot of controls, most formatting changes I make are undone next time I open the form. And yes, I did save it.
On the off chance that I had reached some type of control number limit, especially after renaming most of them a few times, I copied the controls to a new form. Still the same problem.
Any clues?

Have you tried Database Tools > Compact and Repair Database?

Yep a couple of times. Didn't work.
Maybe a repair of Access?

Try creating a new empty database. Then import all database objects from the problem database into the new one.

A LOT of objects. Main prob is the relationships rebuilding. Haven't done that since I ditched replication. A lot hours for this Db. Too hard.

There are options to select all objects of a type (Tables, Queries...) etc. in one go, and to import relationships too.
Best wishes,
Hans

Well I'll be!
Took me less than 2 minutes. When I think of the countess hours spent rebuilding databases that replication messed up - grrrr. Boy, would that have saved me a heap of time - 4 hours at a min each time. And replication ended up messing my Db about once a fortnight.
One thing that the process misses is 'References'. I had to rebuild them. That took a lot longer than the importing.
Oh, and that form now keeps any alterations. WHOOPPEE!

Oh what a journey.
The copying all Db elements seemed to allow the faulty form to work. That is until I tried to do more than superficial changes - then the changes, once again, didn't stick. On top of that, the Db then had numerous faults - vba code couldn't find text boxes that were clearly there and numerous other mess ups. I decompiled, but that made no diff. In the end I had to go back to the original Db - but, as I was aware, the form didn't work. Then I found the problem; Calibri font was causing all the angst. I remove all traces of Calibri replacing with Arial and everything worked beautifully. Can't see how that is possible, but the form has been working for over a week now.
I am guessing that removing Calibri from the computer and installing a new version will result in that font working on the form. If anyone else has any feedback, let me know.
