Access 2007/2010 navigation pane

Post by kwvh »

I hate to show my ignorance, but I cannot find the answer anywhere, so am relying on the great folks here at Eileen's.
I was VERY accustomed to detail view in the database window. I could click on the object group (tables, queries, etc.) and sort by name or date and immediately find the object. With no detail view in the "Navigation Pane/Pain" , it takes additional clicks to do anything similar, and is not at all intuitive.

Is there a way to get the Navigation pain to emulate the old database window?

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

The navigation pane is definitely a change for the worse, like so much in Access 2007.
You can show details and change the sort order by right-clicking the header of the navigation pane and selecting the appropriate options from the popup menu:

There are some free utilities that emulate the database window, if not all its functionality. See Access Junkie FAQ_13 for links.
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.
Best wishes,

Hans,
Thanks!
I downloaded the one at http://www.avenius.de/index.php?Produkte:DBC2007" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;, and it uses .NET 2.0. I have .NET 4.0 and it didn't load on my Access.

My questions now are:
1. Should I download and install 2.0?
2. Will loading 2.0 create any problems since I already have 4.0 running?

Thanks for your help.

Yes, you should downlad and install .NET Framework 2.0.
The different versions of .NET Framework (1.1, 2.0, 3.0, 3.5, 4.0) can coexist peacefully.
Best wishes,
Hans
