Pyramid graphs in Excel 2007

Hi,

How to develop pyramid graphs in excel 2007. It should behave as per the numbers / % as is based on the source data.

I think you are talking about Ternary or Triangle plots?

Excel 2007 has "pyramid chart" as subtype of column charts, but I'd give this subtype a miss, just like the "cone chart" subtype. Such charts are difficult to interpret.

Yet another type is the population pyramid chart, which is a double bar chart.

If you tell us what you want to accomplish, we may be able to provide more specific help.

ok ok... requirement i have is da data with 3 columns.
1 names
2 nos
3 %

If i incorporate the same information in the graph (2 column stacked bars) should represent a pyramid picture.

Could you post a sample, with a mockup of the kind of chart you'd like (it doesn't have to be a real chart, you can use lines and shapes to give us an idea)? Thanks in advance.

Perhaps this is not what you are after. But I presumed a ternary plot. Is something like this example of interest?

Otherwise I concur with Hans, I would need an example dataset and pic of what the chart should look like

It can be done, by creating the Stacked Pyramid subtype of the Column chart type, and by setting the 3D viewpoint angles to 0 degrees, as in the attached version.

However, I don't think creating a chart as in your sample workbook is a good idea. The values are represented in the chart as the height of the segments, but the human eye will look at the area of the segments, so the interpretation of the chart becomes confusing. I agree with Hans (and Peltier) about this. The chart creates an illusion (and a 3-D chart makes it even worse). Even though purchase are over half the amount of deliveries, it appears from the chart to be completely opposite.
