How to add callout labels to a chart?

I have a chart where I plot daily data. I need to mark some specific dates where events happened.

I have done this with simple lines and text boxes, but I have to move these everytime I add data to the chart, as the axes move when I add new dates.

Any suggestion of how I should do this?

There are a few ways: you should be able to add additional XY scatter series using the date as the X values, and 0 and the maximum current data value as your Y values. Then add a data label to one or other data point. Repeat for each marker. You could also use a line chart series with no lines/markers and 100% vertical error bars.
