Pen In Microsoft Excel is inactive
Hello team,
I go to Excel Options -> Customize Ribbon -> All Commands and add Pen and Select Object to Main Tab:
They are placed there but they are inactive. What should I do to make them active?
Purpose: I want to be able to draw lines with a pen on Ribbon .
Respectfully,
BittenApple

Do you have a touch screen and a pen connected to your computer?
Best wishes,

Re: Pen In Microsoft Excel is inactive
I think that explains why the Pen button is disabled...

Hans,
I thought that pen which is in all commands is like a pen in snipping tool. it is like a soft pen.
Please advise me.

I have a PC with a touch screen, but no physical pen.
I can select "Draw with touch" from the Draw menu and then draw on the screen with my finger

Hello StuartR,
Thanks for the response!
I don't have Draw tab on my Excel. I think you added as a Custom tab, don't you?
But under review tab, there is Start Inking option that anything can be drawn on the sheet by using that option. Additionally, the pen and select object that I added from options -> All Commands ->to my Excel workbook, now it is active. I don't know how this happened.
I wonder what gives me the ability to draw lines on the items on the ribbon because with these I can draw lines on the spreadsheet itself only.
Respectfully,

I did not intentionally add the Draw tab, but I have just checked and it is visible as soon as I start Excel.
I can't imagine any Excel tool that would let you draw on the ribbon, what problem are you trying to solve?

Re: Pen In Microsoft Excel is inactive
Hello StuartR,
I have Microsoft 2013; when I start Excel, I don't have a draw tab. Anyway, I got what I was looking for, as none of these tools can draw a line on the Ribbon.
I wanted to point out to something on the ribbon and send it to someone. I can use snipping tool.

BittenApple

Re: Pen In Microsoft Excel is inactive
Yes, you do need something like the Snipping Tool or a graphics program for that. The drawing tools in Excel itself are only for drawing on the spreadsheet.
Best wishes,
Hans
