save not saving?

Post by stuck »

I click 'Save' and it appears to save, then I click Close and Excel asks if I want to save changes?

Any clues as to what might be making Excel think I've done something between saving and closing (when I've not) that warrants the prompt?

Do you have formulas that use TODAY() or NOW()?

May be your workbook has dynamic named ranges ...

The workbook doesn't use TODAY() or NOW() but it does make extensive use of dynamic named ranges. However how they change between clicking Save and Close?

The mere presence of a dynamic range doesn't explain it, but it depends of the definition.
I'm afraid it's impossible to know what causes the prompt without seeing the workbook.

As in the 'recalc before close' could update the named range, even though it returns the same answer and thus it look as if something has changed, when nothing has changed?

While looking at my named ranges I came across this issue again:
named ranges that refer to =#NAME?
I've removed them again. That might have been the problem as the save and immediately close after I'd done that didn't trigger a save changes prompt.

Yet another instance where telepathy would be handy  Sadly but as I think you know, I'm not allowed to upload my workbooks.
