Upon closing Excel 2013 I receive an error message that Excel has crashed. I can replicate the error by opening Excel with a new workbook and then closing it.
Any ideas as to why it is happening is appreciated.

There are many possible causes. Try working through the steps in Excel: How to Troubleshoot Crashing and Not Responding Issues with Excel.
