Word spacing in Excel

Post by geecee »

It's general knowledge that in a word processor document, words can be spaced and aligned using the Tab key. However, in an Excel document, the use of the Tab key takes you into the next adjacent cell. Copying and pasting into the Excel document does not show the desired result. Is there a means, other than via the spacebar, whereby text can be aligned (or near enough) in an Excel document?

Put the text into different cells. You can Data - Text to columns with tab as a delimiter to split them up.

If you want in the same cell, I think you will have to use spacebar and you will also format to a fixed width font (eg Courier New).

The idea in Excel is that you do use the Tab key to place text in different columns if you want to align text.

There is no feature similar to that of Word to align text within a cell.
You'd have to select a fixed-width font such as Courier New and use spaces to align the text, but that is not an attractive solution - it doesn't look nice and it's tedious.
Best wishes,
Hans

Thanks to both of you for your reply. The amount of text to be aligned is not that great. I just thought there might be some way of doing it other than using the spacebar but apparently not.
