Restore Form Control buttons

Hi all.....I have a workbook that has several sheets...there are (were) Form Control buttons on each sheet that I assigned to macros. One of the users told me that the buttons have all disappeared....I looked, and indeed, they have. I opened the Excel program (blank sheets) and was able to insert a Form Control button (I have it on my Quick Access ribbon) onto a sheet, but when I open the other (problem) workbook it doesn't let me click the Form Control button and then place it on the worksheet....the file and the w/sheets are not password protected etc etc......any ideas as to how this happened and how to correct it? Thanks.

Is the workbook shared by any chance? (Does it say [Shared] in the Title bar?)

If that is not the issue then check if this setting (Show objects) is set to Nothing. It must be on All for you to see the buttons and be able to insert them...

Not being shared....I wondered about that, but no indication of sharing....
