What do you want to group/ungroup?
Do you want to add the buttons interactively or using VBA?
Best wishes,
Hans

I just need quick access to the functionality to group and ungroup rows and columns, so I would like to add them to a toolbar so that they are always available

Select Tools | Customize...
Activate the Commands tab.
Select Data in the list of Categories on the left.
The Group and Ungroup buttons should be in the list of Commands on the right.
Drag them (separately) to a convenient location on a toolbar.
Close the Customize dialog.
Best wishes,
Hans

Just curious... what would be a practical application for grouping rows and/or columns? When they are grouped, do they offer any special features such as being apply to apply formulas or formatting to the group... in other words, does the group act as a cell or row or column?

Grouping a set of rows causes outline buttons to be displayed, so that you can easily collapse and expand the rows.

An easier way than using the group/ungroup buttons is to add subtotals, or to use the Auto Outline feature.

See Create an outline.

Hans

Thanks.

FWIW, I am not a fan of grouping (or anything else that takes up my real estate)
