Backspace Key Delayed

Post by BillW »

Word 2000. My wife was editing a document and she says she held a shift key down for too long and some kind of message popped up and now when she tries to delete a few characters she has typed, it will delete the first character and then do nothing until some time-delay occurs. Then it will delete the next character and then delay again. I have no idea what is going on!

Does anyone know how to get out of this mode?

Thanks, Bill

This is almost certainly a Windows setting, and not specific to Word.

Try pressing and holding the shift key again, and when the menu appears clear the option that you checked last time.

Here is the Filter Keys option from Windows 7. If you are using a different operating system this will be somewhat different.

Yes, you are correct. In Win XP the original pop-up has a button that will turn on Filter keys and she clicked that and that caused the problem. I hadn't been aware of this feature at all. We have it corrected now.
